40th Birthday party ideas for men

Your 40th birthday is a major milestone in your life, whether you choose to accept your age or not! Fortunately, the grey hairs probably aren’t showing quite yet and you’re still young enough to have a big birthday celebration. Whether you want to get the lads back together or maybe invite everyone and their kids over to celebrate, take a look at some of our ideas for a 40th birthday for men below.

The pub crawl

Birthday

The pub crawl is a classic way to celebrate your birthday, no matter how old you are. Get your mates back together, pick your favourite pubs and have a pint or two at each pub. Relive your glory days where you were free to drink as much as you want to long into the night. You can also see if there’s anything going on at any of the pubs you visit. Live music, pool, darts or a pub quiz are a great way to have a laugh on your night out. If you’re looking for a great bunch of pubs, ask your mates which pubs they like best, or look online for some great advice.

Go to a nice restaurant

Birthday

Maybe you fancy something a bit less messy and don’t want to face that monstrous hangover in the morning. If you’re a big food fan, a great restaurant might be more up your street. Pull out all the stocks, pick somewhere fancy and book in advance. If you fancy a touch of class and high quality food, see if any restaurants near you have been awarded a Michelin star or two.

If you’ve already got a favourite restaurant, book that instead. This is also a good alternative if you or your mates have kids, though you could always book a babysitter if you or your friends want the night off to yourselves!

Have a barbeque

Birthday

If the weather’s good and you’ve got the garden space for it, you could always invite everyone over for a huge barbeque. This is a great chance for you to show off behind the grill and to enjoy some beers in the sun. This is another family friendly alternative, as you can let the kids run round the garden and keep an eye on them while you are your friends sit back and enjoy the food.

Garden party

Birthday

Want to show off your garden maybe do something a bit different to a barbeque? If you’ve got the space, you could throw an impressive garden party to celebrate your 40th. Get plenty of food and drinks in for the party. If your garden is big enough, you could hire a marquee to make your celebration that much more impressive.

Stay indoors

Birthday

Maybe the weather’s not so good for a barbeque or you don’t want to travel too far, there’s nothing wrong with staying in and having some mates over if that’s what you want to do. There’s plenty you can do to have a great party in your own home, whether you want to throw a huge house party or just invite some friends over for some beers.

Go on holiday

Birthday

Take that trip you’ve always wanted to do. Whether you want a huge trip abroad, celebrating long into the night at the casinos of Las Vegas or go on a big road trip with your family at friends, there’s nothing stopping you. You’ve got the whole world to explore. Go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go and tick that place off your bucket list.

Take the day off

Birthday

Obviously if you’ve got work, you’ll want to take the day off to enjoy whatever you want to do for your 40th birthday. However, if you don’t really feel like doing anything too special or expensive for your 40th birthday, you could always treat yourself to a day off work. Relax at home, spend some time with the family or friends, switch off your smartphone and leave the emails alone for the day. Taking time off work is a great way to celebrate your 40th birthday.
