Japan’s love affair with strawberries remains unabated at ANA InterContinental Tokyo, with the Strawberry Sensation 2020 extravaganza, using approximately 7,000 kilograms of strawberries, scheduled to run from Jan. 15 until May 31.
The Champagne Bar, where an Austrian-inspired strawberry sweets buffet sees at least 25 kinds of desserts, six strawberry and ruby chocolate options, and seven special Viennese cakes order online and pastries highlighting the juicy fruit.
A tasting set allows diners to compare Japan’s strawberry varieties while 10 savory snacks and 15 drinks, with Champagne by the glass or free-flow plans, run extra to balance offerings.
The hotel’s Atrium Lounge presents a colorful Strawberry Afternoon Tea where the berries partner with ham and salmon, as well as appearing more traditionally.
A White Strawberry Afternoon Tea is offered at the same venue. The rare pale fruits are as sweet as their ruby counterparts. Takeout pastries are available at Pierre Gagnaire Pains et Gateaux, while the hotel’s bars offer cocktails and martinis that can only be described as “berry delicious.”
Afternoon tea rich with winter spirit
Guests are invited to indulge in the aromatic flavors of truffles and strawberries in sweet and savory bites that pay ode to the wintry season at The Tokyo Station Hotel’s afternoon tea from Jan. 24 to Feb. 11.
Five different sweet items created to highlight their refined flavors are available to be paired with an endless supply of 15 kinds of drinks. Creamy strawberry shortcake using famed Amao strawberries, foamy truffle chocolate parfaits and cinnamon bread pudding with truffle ice cream await guests at the Lobby Lounge of the hotel inside the historic Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building.
On the savory side, hot items include a burdock root and truffle quiche and a hot sandwich. Rolled Joshu beef and a truffle, cream cheese and ham open sandwich are two of several cold options.
The regular price is set at ¥4,580 and for ¥6,280, guests receive a glass of Champagne. Prices do not include service charge.
Served in two-hour time slots, afternoon tea starts from 11:00 and ends whenever the 15 daily servings have all been taken. Reservations are not accepted.
