Every Valentine's Day, your husband buys you a big box of fancy chocolates. This year, you're on a diet. What do you do?

1) Accept the gift, but make a point of sharing it with coworkers or friends.
2) Tell him in advance that you'd rather he give you flowers.
3) Eat the chocolates, even if it's just one a day for the rest of the month.

Correct answer: (2) If you're committed to losing weight, tell your husband before the holiday to skip the candy. First, let him know how much you appreciate his thoughtfulness. Then say, "Unfortunately, I love the chocolates so much that I'm afraid I'll eat them all, which would totally undo my efforts!" Suggest that something more diet friendly — say, flowers — would be better. Don't skirt the issue by accepting his gift online and passing it on; you might hurt his feelings.
